Are you supposed to tie down a Llama to the ground when you shear it?
A friend of mine just had her 17 & 18 year old Llamas sheared by some new people that tied them down to the ground like Alpacas are when they get sheared. Is this dangerous for them? I have looked at several websites from Llama breeders and they all mention shearing Llamas standing up, not tied down to the ground. Thanks for your help.
I have not personally done it, but some people shear their llamas/alpacas tied to the ground. They do it in a way that it is similar to the tables that can be turned so the lama is on their side. For llamas that are not trained or do not stand still for shearing, this way can be less stressful because they are not kicking and being moved by people, and they are less likely to get hurt.
