Cargo Net

A cargo net is a netted restraint device used to contain or control cargo, often in specialized or lighter-duty applications.

Plain-English Meaning

Cargo nets can help contain loose, odd-shaped, or lighter freight when the net, attachments, and vehicle are designed for that use.

For regulated cargo securement planning, the net rating, attachment points, cargo type, and applicable rule still need to be verified.

A net is often better understood as containment unless its rating and approved use are clear. Inspect webbing, mesh, hooks, stitching, and anchor points.

In day-to-day freight work, the safest use of the term is narrow and factual. Confirm the current rule, equipment rating, shipment condition, and company procedure before using any glossary definition for a live securement decision.

Watchouts

  • Do not treat an unrated net as a known WLL device.
  • Check hooks, mesh, webbing, and anchor points.
  • Loose cargo may still need blocking or containment.
  • A torn net can create a falling-cargo risk.
