Glossary
Front End Structure
A front end structure is a vehicle structure used to help resist forward cargo movement when it is suitable for that purpose.
Plain-English Meaning
Front end structures can include bulkheads or other vehicle structures, but the exact role depends on design, condition, rating, and regulation.
Do not assume a headache rack or cab guard is a rated securement structure unless the current rule, manufacturer information, and company policy support that use.
In day-to-day freight work, the safest use of the term is narrow and factual. Confirm the current rule, equipment rating, shipment condition, and company procedure before using any glossary definition for a live securement decision.
Watchouts
- Inspect for damage and loose mounts.
- A structure does not fix inadequate tiedowns.
- Verify rating and allowed use before counting it.
