Wrapper

A wrapper is a tiedown or containment device used around certain stacked or bundled cargo.

Plain-English Meaning

In log hauling and some bundled freight contexts, wrapper condition and placement can be central to the securement review. The word should be tied to the cargo type and the current source, not used loosely.

A wrapper can lose tension as cargo settles. Recheck for slack, uneven bearing, damaged hardware, and areas where the stack has changed shape after movement.

Packaging wrap, shrink wrap, or weather wrap is different from a rated securement wrapper.

In day-to-day freight work, the safest use of the term is narrow and factual. Confirm the current rule, equipment rating, shipment condition, and company procedure before using any glossary definition for a live securement decision.

Watchouts

  • Check for slack after settling.
  • Do not confuse packaging wrap with a rated securement wrapper.
  • Do not rely on old field language without checking the current commodity section.
